Sights, Sounds, Events, Exploration, Flavors, and Life in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains

Whiteoak Branch Hike to Forney Creek by Brian Whitener

Dare to take a Beautiful Hike one step above and away from the touristy Deep Creek near Bryson City NC! One of the best hiking loops in the Bryson City NC area is found just past the tunnel on the Lakeview Drive! This hidden gem is very quiet and depending on the time of year, you may not see anyone else on the trail past the touristy section of the 1/4 mile “Road to Nowhere” Tunnel. This 8 mile loop is a great step up from hiking in the very popular Deep Creek area. It’s not only a step up in length and challenge; but a step away from tourists for a serene and peaceful encounter with nature. I think it may be the perfect hike for those craving a little more than a hike in Deep Creek.

Hike to Alarka Falls by Sarah Whitener

This is truly one of the most exquisite waterfalls in the area.  I love that you can get up close to it and experience the falls with all of your senses. Although difficult at points it is not a long hike so guests to the area can fit this gem into most schedules.  Also, since the beginning of the hike is less strenuous this trail is a good fit for groups with varying fitness levels. This uncrowded trail leading to an exceptional natural beauty would be a great addition to your trip.
